Atelier Madagascar sprung from an idea by Edith Elise Jaomazava, a Madagascan native who already owned the business SA.VA. It has been an Import-Export business since 2004, and for generations has been dedicated to cultivating and distributing bourbon vanilla and other spices.

 

Today, Atelier Madagascar is the symbol of a vast project that has developed over the years, venturing into an Italian market situation which is increasingly oriented towards the appreciation of food products with recognised quality and origins.

 

They are part of a very widely accepted philosophy that gives due dignity and value to every single ingredient for the flavour of every single recipe.

 

Active in the region through events and fairs, the company encourages awareness of its products through testing and collaboration with pastry students and master chefs, and by getting involved in workshops with self-taught chefs or as specialised guest chefs.

Bourbon vanilla and spices from Madagascar

Bourbon vanilla is the most valued kind of vanilla by international cuisine for its delicate but persistent aromas and its high vanillin content. SA.VA. Import-Export directly cultivates the vanilla pods in Sava, the northeastern region of Madasgacar, according to secrets of traditional cultivation that have been handed down from generation to generation. The origin of the name Sava comes from the first letter of the four regions that make up the region: Sambava, Andapa, Vohémar and Antalaha. We import large, medium and small vanilla pods.

 

There are different qualities of bourbon vanilla, and we mainly deal in the NFN quality, or black Gourmet. We offer derivatives such as vanilla powder and the water-based liquid extract, in different concentrations, in order to satisfy every need. We are also involved in the trade of a large variety of spices, including: dill, anise, pink pepper, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, cumin, turmeric, masala, fenugreek, nutmeg, black pepper, pili pili, sesame, voantsiperifery (wild pepper), cocoa beans, kaffir lime, and ginger. All of these come from different cultivation areas on the island of Madagascar.

 

On request, we are also able to import herbs like gotu kola and the round-leaved sundew, for the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. We only import 100% natural products, and use no fertilizers, pesticides, or preservatives. We ensure that we do not subject them to ionizing radiation, in order to increase their shelf life, and they are free from GMOs.

 

We only sell fresh products from the most recent harvests and we favour aerial imports.

Our dream is to be the Ambassadors of other products offered by the bounteous nature of Madagascar, promoting the dissemination and knowledge of a precious land, without impoverishing it but appreciating it.
